This week we will discuss Work Cell Concepts. The content presented this week assumes you are already familiar with the basics of LEAN as presented in the EET-255 Advanced Topics of E.E.T. course. If you are not, you may wish to read this content presented in Lean & Six Sigma from EET-255.

Webcast on LEAN Workcell Design from MoreSteam.com. This presentation is a little over an hour long so we will not be using class time to watch this. See the assignment in the next paragraph. Here is the pdf handout used in the Webcast:

Assignment: For next week's class, watch the Webcast presentation. It is about an hour in length, but it's the first 30 minutes or so which exemplifies LEAN for manufacturing, then around the 30 minute mark their emphasis shifts to the application of LEAN concepts to service industries.

Here's a YouTube video showing how proper workcell design integrates with LEAN concepts. This is a factory tour of a company called FastCap which manufactures a variety of woodworking tools and products. They were founded in 1997 and their website includes numerous links and videos showing how their business philosophy, including LEAN. They have this pdf on LEAN in a Nutshell:
