Week #12: (11/20-22) BJT A.C. Equations, BJT Switches, FETs, Intro to SCRs

Post by rjagodowski »

In preparation for the next lab, we'll do a quick introduction to SCRs (Silicon Controlled Rectifiers):

SCRs:
http://www.wisc-online.com/Objects/View ... ID=SSE4803 and http://www.wisc-online.com/Objects/View ... ID=SSE4903, also here: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_3/chpt_7/5.html

Then back to our discussion beginning with a summary sheet of A.C. BJT equations we've used previously:

This week we'll summarize the BJT A.C. Equations from the diagram below:

The above schematics with formulas is available on this downloadable pdf, a printed copy will be distributed in class on 11/21:

You should work through all of the following WIsc-Online problems as a Homework Assignment:

Transistor Circuit A.C. Analysis Problem #1 from Wisc-Online

Here are some additional practice problems from Wisc-Online: Circuit #2, Circuit #3, Circuit #4 and Circuit #5.

We discussed transistors as switches last week. Here is a bit of a review of that. The Transistor as a Switch from Wisc-Online. Transistors used as switches are biased so that they are either in Full Saturation ("On") or Full Cut-off ("Off").

Last week we also began the study of Field Effect Transistors. Field Effect Transistors are presented in Chapter 27 of the "Foundation of Electronics" text, if you still have that from your Electric Circuits 1 & 2 courses.

JFET Tutorial. Completed last week.

JFETs from Wisc-Online

JFET Amplifiers and their similarity to BJT amplifier circuits (from Wisc-online).

MOSFET Tutorial

MOSFET Vocabulary from Wisc-Online.

E-MOSFETs - The Ohmic Region.
