Week #4: (9/25-29) Logic Circuit Design, Minterms, Maxterms, SOP, POS.

Post by rjagodowski »

We will look at practical logic circuit design techniques this week. We will use this week's lab experiment for an example. This link on Substituting Gates. should help with Circuit #3.

Here's a basic link on POS & SOP from dyclassroom.com.

Here's a good link for SOP and POS shorthand notation from AllAboutCircuits, but it uses Karnaugh Maps to represent the function. K-Maps contain the same information as a truth table, but present it in table format to aid in the simplification process.

This site has good information on SOP, POS, and the notation used, however it also has lots of info we don't need to cover. So just focus on what was mentioned in class: Digital Design from CSE-140 at the University of California at San Diego.

(This link has moved...please check back soon....Last week we introduced the concepts of Minterms, Maxterms, Sum-of Products (SOP) and Product-of-Sum (POS) logic. We will also investigate the notation and design process of using Minterms and Maxterms to implement logic functions.)

This YouTube Minterm & Maxterm Tutorial has great content, but the speaker has a heavy accent. Those of you planning on heading to a 4 year University, this is your chance to practice your accent decoding skills. :)

This YouTube Presentation of Minterm, Maxterm & Canonical Expressions is pretty straight forward.
