Week #15: Work, Power, Torque, HP & RPM

Post by rjagodowski »

Friday, May 4, is our last scheduled class for this semester. However, on that day, Eppendorf, Inc located in Enfield, CT has offered to host a tour for our students on that day. Therefore, instead of class, you are encouraged to attend this tour. The plan in Enfield makes pipettes for scientific, medical, research and forensic purposes. They run 24/7 and an annual product production yield target of 1.4 billion pipettes for this year.

There will be a sign-up sheet posted on Prof. Rick Jagodowski's door (20/M120) from Friday, 4/27 until Wednesday 5/2. You are required to sign-up if you wish to go on the factory tour. You may drive directly to Eppendorf if you wish, but you MUST sign the sheet as we are limited to a maximum of 20 attendees.

The address is:
Eppendorf, Inc.
175 Freshwater Blvd
Enfield, CT 06082

Map from GoogleMaps.com

Directions: Take Exit 47E off of Rt. 91. This will head you east on Rt. 190 and Freshwater Blvd. is a right turn.

In other news....

Additional Final Exam, Lab Manual & End of the Year Information can be found by clicking here.

If we did have class, we'd discuss a couple of the concepts in these Wisc-Online Tutorials:

The first few slides of: Work and Power

What is Torque?

Calculating Horsepower, RPM & Torque. This presentation has sound.

Here are some Basic Mechanics Word Problems. The first couple reflect some of the content presented above.
