Week #13: Advanced Automation Project Discussion

Post by rjagodowski »

Today we will have some discussions about these final weeks of labs and tentative schedules, and then discuss any issues about your current projects.

ANNOUNCEMENT: We are in the process of trying to schedule a field trip to TTM Technologies in Stafford Springs, CT. If you went to the career fair a couple of weeks back, they were the employer immediately to our right. They are the largest printed circuit board manufacturer in North America. The field trip will be held Friday, May 3, at their Open House. The bus will probably leave STCC about 7:30ish or so to arrive at the facility for 8:30 am. Our return to STCC will probably be around 1:00 pm. See Rick for the sign-up sheet if you're interested in attending. (Note: IF you're a graduating senior, you SHOULD be interested!)

The following dates come from the STCC Academic Calendar.

Important Dates:
Thursday, April 18th, is a Professional Development Day. NO DAY classes. Evening classes as scheduled.

Due to the Professional Day, the labs and classrooms in our area will not be accessible. However, if you wish to work on your project this week, I will be available and have the labs open on Wednesday, 4/17, from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, 4/19, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:05 p.m..

Thursday, May 9th, is the last day of classes.
Friday, May 10th, is Reading Day - No Classes
Friday, May 10th, E.E.T. Advisory Board Meeting & Senior Project Presentation Day. See details below.
Monday-Thursday, May 13-16 are the dates for Final Exams for Day Classes. See Final Exam Schedule here.
Friday, May 17th is a Make-Up Day for Final Exams, if needed.
Friday, May 17th All written work for the Project is due BEFORE NOON.
Sunday, May 19th, Final Grades are due at midnight.

E.E.T. Advisory Board Meeting & Senior Project Presentation Day - Your Final Project Presentation is scheduled for noon on Friday, May 10th. This is also the day for the E.E.T. Advisory Board Meeting. The Advisory Board meeting will commence AFTER the attendees have a chance to view your projects. You should have resume's ready for distribution at your presentation.

Additional Important Dates:

The Final Project Paper: Here are some samples from previous years. Final hard copy must be submitted to me by NOON on Friday, May 17th. Final electronic copy of all files, programs, and report are due by 8:00 pm on Friday, May 17th.

The Final Project Presentation: This will be a group presentation. This will be on May 10th, but the actual times are still being worked out. However, it is known that at noon the E.E.T. Advisory Board Members will be present to watch each group showcase their project. There will be three project presentations within approximately a 30 minute time period, so you should plan to be able to demonstrate your project in about 10 minutes or so.

Project Video: A short video showing the operation of your project. You can refer to this video created and posted by the Spring 2015 Day Class for ideas.

Tri-Fold & Mobile Presentation: Each group should create a Tri-Fold presentation of their project as well as a mobile presentation which might include the project video and/or a brief PowerPoint type presentation. This will be used for the Project Presentation Day event which is tentatively being scheduled for May 10. The time is yet to be announced, but will likely be 10-1 or somewhere in that range. Each group should have at least one member at the Project Presentation event to represent their project.
