Week #12: (4/8-12) FRLs, Air Leaks & Conservation,

Post by rjagodowski »

This week I'll allow you to spend the majority of time working on the projects. I do want to cover several of the topics originally posted in Week #7 on Pneumatic Components:

Pneumatic Filters, Regulators, Lubricators (FRLs)

Pneumatic Air Leaks

Pneumatic Air Conservation NOTE: In this video they mention the cost of electricity as being $0.10 per kiloWatt-hour. Currently, the national average for electricity is about $0.12 per kW-hr, and here in Massachusetts it somewhere around $0.20 per kW-hr. At the $0.20 per kW-hr, you can DOUBLE the cost of electricity used in this presentation. Yes, "air" IS expensive, which is why eliminating leaks, operating at the right pressure and proper maintenance is imperative.

Some options are shown in these videos using VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) Compressors: VFD Compressor in Operation and this video showing the VFD Compressor is about 35% more efficient than a traditional electric compressor.

Next week, we'll be meeting across the hall in 20/M118 to use the Microsoft Program Visio to create Hydraulic & Fluid Power drawings, so that may take most of the class period and possibly some of the lab time.
