This week we came up with a comprehensive plan and parts list for the turn tables and position indication portion of the project. We decided to purchase a 12vdc electric motor with built in gear reduction attached to a worm gear that would drive the turn table, a 1" stroke air cylinder to operate to dosing device and some capacitive sensors to determine turntable position and cup position. We also purchased some associated brackets for the electric motor and brackets for mounting the air cylinder. Hopefully the parts will be in next week and we can start building the bottle rack and move forward with the physical build and get beyond the concept stage.

After lecture, we brainstormed on our system's needed parts and began to spec them out and search for availability on Amazon primarily.
We found a 100 rpm DC motor, which we liked in combo with a worm gear/ring. We calculated that the torque and ultimate gear reduction was in our ballpark and the tooth-to-tooth spacing of the final gear would be 2mm-per tooth. Our choice of sensor would need to be able to accommodate that.
We also used the F=PA formula to determine that we would need about 14 lbs of air pressure to operator our air solenoid, well within the feasible range. A parts list was compiled for the instructor so that he could begin ordering needed parts. We'll use the ring and worm gear, but also order a timing belt-like apparatus as a back method to drive the carousel.
