Today's lectures will focus on discussions about Safety.

Here's a pdf of the MSDS Sheets distributed in class:
MSDS Packet.pdf
Here's a tentative schedule of instructors & topics:
CRRC Instructor Schedule_Skip&Rick_Topic Outline_2019-0131.pdf

You should read Chapter 1 in the text and answer al of the Review Questions and #2 of the Critical Thinking Questions on Page 12. I've attached a pdf of each a leaded and lead-free solder.

Here are some of the videos and links we looked at or were mentioned in class:

Overview of Safety:

Here's a recent example of an accident which could've easily been avoided which, sadly, resulted in the loss of life of a coworker. Bumble Bee Tuna Processing Plant Accident, 2012

OSHA Cites Dollar Tree for fatal accident at Georgia Distribution Center, 11/2018.

U.S. Department of Labor Cites Thorpe Plant Services and Steel Dust Recycling After Employee Hospitalized For Fall

How Not to Unload a Truck from YouTube.

From the United States Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) here is the front page to their Workplace Injury, Illness and Fatality Statistics.

OSHA and Safety Laws:

Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Website.

NIOSH - The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health

GHS (Global Harmonized System) in 60 Seconds and Wikipedia on GHS.

And from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Injuries, Illnesses and Fatalities by State .

Personal Protective Equipment:

PPE Training Not overly flashy, but basic information and quizzes on PPE.

A 15 minute YouTube presentation on PPE - An Overview of the Basics.

A 5 minute YouTube video on Why Do We Wear PPE?. Several of the demos illustrate the points nicely.

And a PPE Safety Rap Video for those who learn through music.

ArcFlash Links:

Here's a very informative book on ArcFlash:

DO NOT PRINT THIS, IT IS A LONG DOCUMENT!!!!! You can register here to receive this directly from the publisher and see other related content they have available.

The above document is WAY more detailed than we'll cover in a course such as this, and we'll mention more about this in the chapter on Electrical Safety.
