Week #2 (9/9) Intro to Safety, Examples of Accidents

Post by rjagodowski »

This week we'll quickly review the course syllabus and then discuss some basics about safety.

In the text "Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics" please read the following sections:
2.1 Safety Standards & Regulations (OSHA, Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
2.2 Professional Conduct & Safety

Here's a link to a previous Forum post about Safety Laws and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). Note, previously, SDSs were referred to as MSDSs (Material Safety Data Sheets). The "M" has been dropped so the first word you see is "Safety". Click Here.

For Next Week (9/16) please read the following sections: Click here for next week...
2.3 Securing the Work Area (Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Blocking)
2.4 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Throughout the semester I will post links of industrial safety & health examples. Some good, some not so good.

Here's an example of an accident which could've easily been avoided which, sadly, resulted in the loss of life of a coworker. Bumble Bee Tuna Processing Plant Accident, 2012
