The story was fiction, but the lessons learned and presented by the characters form a solid basis every technician should appreciate, and everyone desiring to be a technician should study closely.

In the closing paragraphs of the text, the author writes: " ...Heather had never gotten revenge on John Wintekeller or her opportunistic first husband. They both retired wealthy. Yet Heather did get revenge. It was revenge on the real enemy, society's abuse of those under economic adversity. Heather had provided competent car repair to millions, more than a few of whom could have lost their jobs if a mechanics like Wintekeller had taken care of them. She had provided jobs to many disadvantaged by race, gender and especially age. Heather's revenge wasn't on a particular person, it was on economic adversity."

STCC's Mission Statement is "Supporting students. Transforming lives." As a long time professor at this institution, I know first hand MANY students who have used the skills they have learned here at STCC to overcome their economic adversity. And you can too!
