Week #10: (9/9-13) Revisit Week #9, Pneumatic Components

Post by rjagodowski »

This week we will continue the problem on cylinder speed and power we were working on last week in Week #8.

Then we'll discuss various Pneumatic Components. Many of these are presented in your lab handouts and in your textbook.

First topic of discussion will be Air Compressors. Here's a Wisc-Online presentation on Types of Pneumatic Compressors. Emphasis will be placed on positive displacement reciprocating single and dual stage compressor types.

Pneumatic Control Valves from AutomationDirect.com as well as this Interactive Demo of Control Valve Operation.

And here's a presentation on
Pneumatic Directional Control Valves

the Air Pilot

and

Pneumatic Actuators.

Simple Pneumatic Circuits

And other related topics:

Pneumatic Filters, Regulators, Lubricators (FRLs)

Pneumatic Schematic Symbols & Flashcards

Pneumatic Air Leaks

Pneumatic Cylinder Flow Control

Pneumatic Cylinder Force Calculator

Manual Control of a Reciprocation Circuit - Flash Failure, doesn't work quite right.

Repetitive Cylinder Cycling

Designing a Reciprocation Circuit This is a good exercise if you have or are taking the Motor Controls course or the PLCs1 course as it requires understanding of ladder diagrams.

Pneumatic Air Conservation, which stresses some important concepts regarding the cost to provide pneumatic power, and why it is important to match the output of the compressor to the demands of the pneumatic tools/actuators.
