Week #10: Flowcharts

Post by rjagodowski »

NOTE: Our first exam will be given today. See the details here. The in-class portion will be given at 11:50AM during our class and should take you 10-15 minutes to complete. You will then be given the take-home portion which will be due next week (11/20) at 11:15AM.

Be sure to check out the new assignments for November & December posted here.

This week we will discuss Flowcharts (some pdf tutorials are provided below) and how they can be easily drawn using Microsoft Visio.

Here are some Flowchart examples.

Here's a good presentation on What Is A Flowchart?

Flowcharts Using Visio:

Visio is a paid add-on product to Microsoft Office. We will use some class time to reproduce the flowchart shown below. You do not need to add the colors. Since you will be printing in black and white, it's best to keep the color scheme simple.

Here's are some links on Basic Tasks in Visio 2016 and Tutorial for Visio 2016 from Microsoft.

To print the document you can either:

1.) Log into the computer with your username, print normally and use your RAM swipe card to print your document.

OR

2.) Save the file as a pdf: File > Save & Send > Create PDF/XPS Document, save the pdf on a USB Flashdrive and then plug this flashdrive into the USB port on the back of the printer and follow the directions on the Printer display. Ask your instructor for assistance, if needed.

Make sure you save your work either on your Flashdrive, cloud-based storage or e-mail the file to yourself. Files saved directly on your computer will only be available until the computer is shut off. Once it reboots, your files will be gone. DO NOT SAVE FILES ON YOUR COMPUTER.
