Week #3: Energy, Force, Pressure & Torque

Post by rjagodowski »

This week we will discuss the topics presented in Chapters 1-5 of each of the Pneumatic (MB200), Mechanisms (MB300) and Hydraulics (MB400) kits. This is to give you a better understanding for some of the basics of each technology and the components you'll be using in the kits.

If you have the textbook, for Homework, please read pages 167-173 in Chapter 9 in the text. The topics will include Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy, Force, Pressure, Torque, Work & Power. You should also read pages 173-182 dealing with Simple Machines & Efficiency. (Those page numbers are for the first edition. If you have the second edition, use the topics as a guideline as to which pages to read.)

The homework sheet (and answers) distributed last week in class is attached here:

Absolute and Gauge Pressure from the Engineering Toolbox.com. On the left margin of Engineering Toolbox.com you will see a list of the various technologies and topics that are presented on their website. You might find some of these handy for other EET classes, or just your own personal knowledge.
