Week #9: More Op-Amps

Post by rjagodowski »

We'll continue discussing op-amp circuits, including derivation of the gain formulas for the Inverting and Non-Inverting Amplifiers which were introduced last week. We will also be looking at some of the practice problems attached below with specific emphasis to the circuits you will be building in lab this week. The lab information can be found here.

From Wisc-online:

As review: The Inverting Amplifier and the Non-Inverting Amplifier.

Op-Amp Buffer. This has audio and Q & A in the tutorial. You should watch this outside of class.

Summing Amplifiers

Open Loop Op Amp Comparator.

Op-Amp Comparator Tutorial, we'll focus on the Positive Feedback content (scroll down a bit).

Homework and Lab Practice Problems:

A set of homework problems is attached below. You may have a printed copy from the beginning of the semester. If not, you can pick one up next time you are in lab. This is a combination Lab & Homework Assignment.

Here's a table which summarizes the key differences between an "Ideal Op-Amp" and the 741. There are many op-amps which have much better specs than the 741, so this chart can be considered the difference between the ideal and the worst case practical device.

Here are some pictures of the White Board after a lecture in the Fall of 2018.

Here are some Oscilloscope Traces showing the relationship between the normal time displays (voltage vs. time) of the oscilloscope and the X-Y Mode (voltage vs. voltage). There are several examples:
