Week #7: Catch-Up Week/StampWorks Experiments - Week #1
This week you can use our lab time to put your finishing touches and to do demonstrations for your Traffic Light Project. Remember the completed project is due on or before 5:00 PM. on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Full information for the project and it's requirements can be found here. Remember to make your Forum posts as specified.
When we return from Spring Break (NEXT WEEK!!!!), we will begin using the StampWorks Experiments. I've included some of the information here so that you can begin to review the experiments you'll be performing later this semester.
The StampWorks kit uses the BS2 Professional Development Board to perform more advanced experiments using a minimum of external hardware. In this way, you should be able to complete 2, 3 or even 4 experiments in a week.
As you complete the experiments below, you should create a post which lists which experiments you completed. As a reference, by the end of Week #12 you should have completed the first 9 StampWorks Experiments listed below through Experiment #18. There will be other experiments to perform after these such as: using the PING Ultrasonic Sensor and a 4x4 KeyPad, plus the Extra-Credit experiments listed below.
You MUST demonstrate at least one of your completed experiments to your instructor each time you are in the lab or you will not receive credit for your posts. I will then verify your post with an edit added to your post with a statement similar to "Verified 3/23/23 by RJ"
The assignments/experiments you will need to perform are listed below.
The Stampworks Manual can be downloaded here. On that same page you should also download the pdf for the BS2 Professional Development Board, which includes information on the capabilities of that system.
The BS2 programs for all of the StampWorks Experiments are contained in this zip file: If you download this file you do not have to copy and paste the BS2 code.
You will notice that the list below begins with Experiments #26 & #27, then back to Experiment #10. It is advised you perform these Experiments in this order.
The required experiments in the StampWorks Manual are:
Experiment #26: Hobby Servo Motor Control
Experiment #27: Stepper Motor Control
Experiment #10: A Digital Clock
Experiments #11, 12 & 13: Using an LCD Display
Experiment #16: Frequency Measurement
Experiment #17: Advanced Frequency Measurement
Experiment #18: A Light Controlled Theremin
Experiment #21: Analog Input with PULSIN
Experiment #22: Analog Output with PWM
Experiment #28: Voltage Measurement
Additional Experiments (Extra-Credit) are:
Experiment #31: Advanced 7-Segment Multiplexing*
Experiment #32: I2C Communications*
Experiment #33: Using A Real-Time Clock
*These Experiments require external parts not contained within the StampWorks Board Inventory. See your instructor for these components.
Using any BS2 board (see below):
Using the PING Sensor
Using the 4x4 keypad.
There will be a few other additional BS2 activities to perform, such as: using the PING Ultrasonic Sensor, a 4x4 KeyPad and, if not already completed, viewing BS2 I/O signals on the Agilent Digital Scopes, to name a few.

I did experiments #26 and #27. My stepper motor wasn't running exactly how I thought it would, but I wired it correctly and Rick looked at it and said it was fine.
